  • Maynard Studios, the blacksmithing shop owned and operated by artists Matthew and Karine Maynard, has been a fixture in Anderson County for more than 20 years. But unlike many Bluegrass-area blacksmiths, horseshoes are one item the Maynards do not make.   • A Masterpiece lnspired by Nature

    It all started with a walk in the woods. Karine Maynard was on a visit to a client's property (in a gated community near Bluflton, SC), where her company was installing gates. While she was there, Karine went on a walk with her client and her sisters through their woods. "As we walked, we picked samples of different botanicals that caught our eye," Karine recalled. "The idea was that I was going to use these as inspiration to create our client an interior  wall sculpture out of many botanicals."  Read more >>


  • In their studio at a spot-in-the-road called Fox Creek in Anderson County, Matt and Karine Maynard turn metal into functional works of art. They are professional blacksmiths, although not the kind typically thought of in Central Kentucky. No horses are involved.
    What might they craft? The list is long — railings for a winding staircase, fanciful window grilles that mimic trailing vines, gates so alluring you forget they are barriers. They’ve crafted sculptures, swings, tables, door pulls, thresholds, and chandeliers. If something can be made from metal, the Maynards can make it using hammers, anvils, and forges. Read more >>
